Ross Doerr PhotoHiSoftware Advisor - Accessibility Standards and Technology

Ross A. Doerr is a former electrician from Pompano Beach Florida who began losing his eyesight in the late 1970’s. When it became apparent that he was going to go blind, he left the electrical trade to, as he put it “avoid the shock treatments” he seemed to be inflicting on himself with increasing regularity.

He went on to be a graduate of the N.H. university system’s Plymouth State College with a BA in East Asian History and a minor in Political science in third world developing nations. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Santa Clara School of law in Santa Clara California in 1988 and was admitted to practice law in New Hampshire in 1989.

During his time in New Hampshire, he has had his own solo law practice, worked for the Governor’s commission on Disability in the Client Assistance Program and has gone on to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind where he wears the hats of Technology Consultant, ADA Accessibility consultant, Section 508 advisor and RTA. He has brought the Association’s Technology and Braille program into existence for the Association which includes a 6 station computer lab with screen reading software, screen enlarging software and other similar adaptive technology for the State’s blind and visually impaired individuals. Additionally, he has researched and written most of the class curriculum for the numerous training programs that he teaches.

It is his way of giving something back to the community of the disabled who are coming after him in New Hampshire. “Nobody should have to try and learn this technology and learn their rights the way that I had to do it”.
